Is Moxa for Me?

Moxa, or moxibustion, is the application of heat by burning the mugwort herb to facilitate healing. Traditional Chinese medicine has incorporated the method for thousands of years to maintain general health and wellbeing, strengthen and invigorate blood, soothe particular types of pain, and stimulate the building and flow of Qi.

So what can Moxa treat?

1. Muscle Soreness or Strain

Burning Moxa in close proximity to your achy muscles nourishes the tissue, bringing energy to the area of concern and reducing inflammation. Used in conjunction with mobility exercises, moxa will improve the vitality and strength of your muscles.

2. Menstrual Cramps

Moxa reduces the symptoms of menstrual cramps by increasing blood circulation to the pelvic area and uterus. This stimulates the flow of Qi and removes stagnation, allowing your cramps to melt away.

3. Chronic Pain and Arthritis

Pain and swelling are a result of stagnant energy surrounding injuries. Moxa invigorates the blood which allows the Qi to flow through the injured site. Alongside a blood-building serum or food, such as bone broth, moxa can minimize discomfort.

4. Weakened Immune System

The heat from moxa penetrates the body and deeply boosts the immune system. When applied to specific regions, the body absorbs the energy at the cellular level, increasing the your natural white blood cell defense system.

5. Fatigue

Moxa nourishes the body and boosts energy when burned near specific acupuncture points to combat chronic fatigue, mental and physical exhaustion, as well as boost cellular metabolism to support digestion.

If you identify with any of these symptoms , speak with your acupuncturist at your next appointment to determine if Moxa may be a good solution for you.
