Facial Acupuncture Series

Cosmetic Acupuncture, is a style of acupuncture that has been shown to alleviate wrinkles by toning and firming skin through the use of specific acupuncture points. This technique increases blood flow to the face, relaxes facial muscles, and potentially stimulates the production of collagen and elastin (structural proteins in the body that provide structure and firmness to tissue). In addition to treating the skin and face Traditional Chinese Medicine is used to treat underlying internal conditions that may be increasing damage to skin. Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophizes that internal imbalances can affect us externally. Treating the internal imbalances as well as external signs to reach optimal results of beauty and well-being. Cosmetic acupuncture is an all-natural, non-surgical approach to beauty.

Benefits of cosmetic acupuncture:

  • A reduction in fine lines

  • Minimization of the beginnings of jowls

  • An improvement in acne and rosacea

  • Reduction of under-eye puffiness

  • Lifting of droopy eyes

  • Improved facial and neck tone

  • Softer, more vibrant skin

  • More balanced skin tone

  • Fading of age spots

  • Enhanced natural glow and vitality that

reflects innate health and radiance of the body,

mind, and spirit.

In addition to the possible effects mentioned above, clients may see other positive “side effects” in their health and well-being as well as notice a decrease in other symptoms they are experiencing due to the regulation of the internal environment. These changes, to name a few, include an increase in energy, decreased pain, weight loss, improved digestion, increased restful sleep, and decreased anxiety.

In addition to the Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment, Jennifer often utilizes non-invasive, painless micro-current to enhance the effects of the treatment. Traditional Chinese herbal formulas may also be recommended to enhance effectiveness of treatments, regulate internal imbalances, and bring skin back to balance.

Who should be considering cosmetic acupuncture?

Any individual who seeks a safe, healthy technique to

maintain or gain a more youthful appearance and age

as gracefully as she or he can. While results can be

dramatic, they do vary from individual to individual and

should not be compared specifically to other more

invasive procedures like cosmetic surgery and injections.

While many practitioners refer to cosmetic acupuncture

as an “acupuncture face lift,” I prefer to steer away from

such claims for even though some results may appear as

if a person had surgical work it is not a guarantee. For

individuals who want surgical results, surgery may be

the best road to take. However, even for these clients,

acupuncture and cosmetic acupuncture can be used to

increase the longevity of chosen surgical or injection

treatment and enhance overall natural beauty.

This procedure is not suitable for:

  • People who suffer from seizures

  • People with bleeding disorders

  • People on blood thinning medications

  • Pregnant women

  • People with severe migraine headaches (this should first be resolved through acupuncture or another modality preceding cosmetic acupuncture treatments)

Treatment Plan:

A treatment plan consists of a minimum of 10 appointments (two treatments per week over five weeks for people over 30 years of age). A maintenance program of one treatment every three to six months is strongly encouraged to sustain results (time frame depends on skin quality). For people who smoke or have severe skin damage, more treatments will be necessary.
